Wednesday Weekly Update – 10/28/15

Second Story progress…

Lots more framing has been done since last week on our second story addition. Check out all my previous updates here.  You can see below, from the front of the house, that the frame is almost complete.  I know, I know! The house looks like such a disaster right now.  Windows boarded up, a pile of sand in the front yard, a dumpster in the driveway.  It looks like its ready for the wrecking ball!  But, I do see a light at the end of the tunnel and I can’t wait for it to be complete.

I realized that I never posted a picture of what the house will look like once completed so I attached a rendering here.  A few things will be different.  For example, the arched entryway is going away and will be squared off, as well as the arched rock area to the right of the front door.  That will be a window.  Also, we will be painting the house something other than yellow.  Not that I have anything against yellow.  Its just not my thing.

A room with a view…

It is so nice to be able to walk up our new stairs into our soon to be second floor.  I did this on Sunday.  It looks so large and open up there right now as there is no framework for the walls yet. The second level will consist of the following; master bedroom and bath, 2 kids bedrooms and 1 bath, laundry room and playroom.  The master includes a balcony overlooking the pool to our huge backyard. What a view!  Just pretend that giant pile of wood is not there. 😉

Our future view, minus the piles of wood and the overgrown grass.

More Stinkin’ Rain…..

It was raining today.  Hard!  The roof trusses were supposed to be installed but are now delayed because of the rain.  Boo!  According to the weather app on my phone it is supposed to be nice again tomorrow. So, hopefully my app is correct and we will get right back on track.

We met with the contractor, sub-contractor, and window guy today to iron out some details.  The windows are waiting in the warehouse but the house is not ready for them yet.  Boo again!

Family Fun Night Fall Festival…

The Fall Festival that I was a part of planning is now over.  Wahoo! It was a success!  So much work but was fun to see it all come together.  There was an excellent turn out and everyone had a really good time.  Of course the night was not complete without a few snafu’s.  The main one being that the DJ cancelled at the very last minute due to a family emergency.  Ugh!  He felt really terrible about it, and how was I to be mad since this man’s poor mother was in the emergency room?  Anyway, thankfully the PTO President came to the rescue.  Her husband works at a local resort and they had a perfect sound system that we were able to borrow and hook up to an iPad with a ‘DJ playlist’ on it.  Whew!  No one even knew the difference. I was so busy running around all night I didn’t even get a chance to take pictures except this one.  We had a local farm donate these gourds which we turned into a mini pumpkin patch.  Kids were able to paint and decorate a pumpkin.  It was very cute! I’ll gather some pictures from my mother and husband and try to write a whole post about the event soon.

Anyway, that is all I got for today.  Hope you enjoyed this week’s update.  More to come next week.
