DIY Driftwood Christmas Tree
Welcome to the December DIY Challenge, hosted by Terrie at Decorate and More with Tip. (You can see my past DIY Challenges here.) This month we were challenged to create a Christmas project. Anything we wanted. Using any materials we wanted.
If you are coming over from Blues Skys at Home, welcome! Make sure you check out the rest of the ladies in this challenge at the bottom of this post.
My Project…
I’ve been wanting to make a DIY Driftwood Christmas Tree for a while now and this was the perfect opportunity to do so. I’ve been collecting good pieces of driftwood every time I visit the beach. I pulIed them out to see what I had and was VERY happy to see that I had the perfect pieces to make the shape of a tree! Check this out….
Materials Used for this Project…
Driftwood |
Small Ornaments (I bought mine at Dollar Tree) |
Snowflakes (also from Dollar Tree) |
Twine |
Starfish for the top (Hobby Lobby) |
Glue Gun |
After I arranged all my driftwood on the floor, I starting placing the ornaments and snowflakes to see which placement I liked. The ornaments were purchased at Dollar Tree last year, or the year before and I bought the snowflakes at Dollar Tree this year. I found the starfish at Hobby Lobby.
Before I attached all the ornaments and snowflakes to my driftwood, I tied the driftwood together using my twine. To do this, I used one long piece of twine down each side, making sure they were very tight.
Next, I starting tying the ornaments and snowflakes to the driftwood pieces. The snowflakes came with string. I used twine to tie the ornaments to the wood. See above.
For the Star on top, I used a starfish that I bought at Hobby Lobby. To get it to stay on the wood, I glued a piece of a skewer to it, then drilled a small hole in the top of the driftwood using my Dremel Tool, then stuck it right in there. Then filled it with glue from my glue gun to make sure it stayed in place.
And…..that is it. This wasn’t to hard to make, and didn’t cost a lot either! Here is the finished product. Isn’t it puuuurty? I may order some lights for it, but for now I think it looks pretty cute the way it is.

Jodi! How creative and pretty is this? I love this. So artistic. It does look pretty just the way it is, but lights would look good too. Love it!
Thank you so much, Tammy! I am so glad you like it.
Jodi, this driftwood Christmas tree is so cute. We don’t have any driftwood or even a beach near us, but I envision using branches. I didn’t realize how big it was until you showed it on your wall ~ which looks great. Great idea. Merry Christmas.
Yes! Sticks would work great. Merry Christmas to you too.
I love the look of wall hanging trees, Jodi! And your driftwood tree is on trend and quite lovely for the holidays! Great job!
Thanks, Gail!

I love collecting too.
Jodi, love your tree design. Funny thing, I was going to do something similar but ran out of time. Great minds think alike. Thanks for sharing your tree tutorial with us.

What a unique and creative idea!! I love that you used driftwood that you’ve been collecting so it’s full of fun memories, too. Pinned!
