Wednesday Weekly House Remodel Update – April 27th, More progress

We’ve made lots more progress on the House house.  We are targeting a move in date for the first weekend in May.  That is less than 2 weeks away!  The house might not be totally done but it’ll be damn close.

I’ve been so busy I barely had time to write today’s post.  But here goes nothing….

Check out my new kitchen!  It is beautiful.  We are still waiting on counters (which will probably be installed early next week), appliances (which come this Friday) and faucets (which obviously need a sink and counters to install it on).

And here is another reminder of what it looked like before…

Check out my fabulous tub!  Pretty, right?  I likie!  Can’t wait to soak in this bad boy.

Plumbers also installed a toilet and one shower head too. Lots more to do but they’re getting there.

Upstairs Deck Tile…

We found this great porcelain tile that looks like wood at Home Depot for pretty cheap for the small deck that is off the master bedroom.  Once this is done we can install the spiral staircase that will go from this deck to the pool downstairs.  Can’t wait to see this installed.  The staircase is in our garage right now.

Office Floor…

My husband and I are going to attempt to install this floor tomorrow.  It is interlocking foam flooring used in gyms (and other places too), but it looks like travertine tile!  Half of the office if a gym so my husband wanted this type of flooring in there so we figured we would just install it throughout the room.  We cleaned out and cleared out this room today.  Wish us luck!

We are almost to the finish line.

Wednesday Weekly House Remodel Update – 4/20/16 – Floors, Cabinets and more

You guys, things are really moving along now!  It is awesome.  Check out my past updates here, in case you’ve missed anything.

Bathroom cabinets…

All the custom bathroom cabinets have been installed, except for the small powder bath which we decided to not go custom on.  We’ll purchase something ourselves for that.  I’m trying to find something a little different and not white for that bathroom.

Hardwood Floors…

Our hardwood floors have been installed.  They did this pretty quick.  Only took them a day and a half.  Not bad.  They look freakin’ awesome and really lighten up the space.  Plus they fit into my idea of a beachy/coastal look.  You like? I dig em’!  They might not be your thang and thats okay with me.

Pool Pavers Done…

Our pool pavers are all done too.  Check them out.  Can’t wait to take a dip in this pool and to have our first House house pool party.

“We’ll have a house party, we don’t need nobody
Turn your TV off, break that boom-box out
We’ll wake up all the neighbours ’til the whole block hates us
And the cops will show up and try to shut us down”

Anyone know that song? That’ll be us soon.  Except we’ll probably invite the neighbors.  It’s the least we can do for putting up with this remodel for the past 8 months!

Kitchen Cabinets…

Our kitchen cabinets are getting delivered tomorrow.  So excited!!!  And we finally picked some Quartz for our counters.  This was tricky because of the size of our island.  It’s HUGE.  We will need to use 2 slabs of quartz on the island.  There will be a seam down the middle but they assure me it won’t be that visible.  They told us not to pick anything that had to much movement in it.  We picked Cloud Nine by Pompeii Quartz for the counters and are getting quotes for some recycled glass mosaic counters for the kids bath.

I can’t wait to see my gigantic island get installed.  Appliances are scheduled for Friday of next week.

Here is a reminder of what the kitchen looked like when we bought this house.

And here is what it will look like soon.

From Dumpster Diving to Upcycling…

Last week my husband and I went dumpster diving in our dumpster to rescue a ton of pool pavers that were thrown in there.  We’ll use them for something.  We also have so many left over pallets and other materials from this remodel.  Its cray-cray!  We want to do some upcycling with all this stuff.  There are a zillion different idea’s on Pinterest. Think we could make this porch swing out of all our pallets?

We need to pick out lighting for our house.  More decisions.  Yikes.  It gets so overwhelming.

Almost there now….lots more progress next week.  Hopefully!  Thanks for reading.

Wednesday Weekly House Remodel Update – 4/13/16 Tile Done!

We moved, again.  We are now in my husband’s aunt and uncles condo in East Naples.  So thankful that we had this option! We can’t thank them enough for letting us use it until they come down for a visit next month.  🙂

Speaking of family, we had a great visit with my brother-in-law and family this weekend.  It was so nice to see them and my kids had an absolute ball with their cousins.  We spent all day Sunday at their hotel, Naples Beach Resort, and then took them out on our boat all day yesterday.  The weather was perfect and it was so nice to catch up with them.  They even got a tour of the House house!

Anyway, on to the House house updates…

Bathroom Tile…

The tile in the entire house is done.  It looks great.  Take a look. (Not shown are powder bath, kids bath and laundry room.)

The pool tile is done too.  It looks amazing.  These tiles change color when the sunlight hits them.  It is very pretty.  They started prepping the pool area and lanai for pavers today!  Not sure how long this takes but it is a LARGE area so I suspect it’ll take a while.  We’ll see.

Dumpster diving…

The pool company accidentally delivered one full pallet of the wrong color pavers so they threw them into the dumpster!  My husband noticed they were in there so the 2 of us went dumpster diving to save them all.  We will definitely use these for something.  Maybe a fire pit for the backyard.

Can you believe we finally just got our electricity up and running?  I know!  It literally took forever.  It stinks because it is out of our hands and into the hands of Florida Power and Light (FPL).  You have to work around their schedule and it took forever for them to come out for an inspection.

Electricity means we have AC…

Yup, all this time we have not had air conditioning in our house.  Thankfully it hasn’t been crazy hot and thankfully we invested in some super awesome windows and upgraded our insulation and both keep it reasonable cool inside the house without the AC on.  But, none of that matters now because it is on and cooling off the place.

Next steps…

The wood floors will be getting delivered in the next few days so that they can acclimate and they will begin floor prep on Friday.  I can’t wait to see them!!!  After wood floor means the kitchen cabinets will be installed!

Not sure when the carpet is supposed to get installed but it’ll be soon.

Bathroom vanities and plumbing need to be finished.

We are so darn close now!!!!

Weekly Wednesday Update – 4/6/16

Getting Close…

Lots of stuff has happened in the House house since my last update.

Picking paint colors…

I have such a hard time picking paint colors.  It isn’t easy.  Does anyone else have a hard time with this?  I’ve hired color experts in my last 2 houses to help me choose but last week the painters were ready to paint and other contractors were waiting for the painters to finish so we had to decide QUICK.  There was no time for color experts.

I didn’t realize I’d need to pick colors so soon.  I feel like it is easier to choose when all your furniture and stuff is already in place?  Know what I mean? Anyway, we decided to use several of the same colors we already know we like and then picked a few new ones. I’ll show you the old ones later (lots of blue).  Here are a few new colors we picked…

Worldly Gray for the boys rooms, which I love and Shoji Gray for laundry and kids bath (which is just slightly lighter than this one).

I was worried that this was going to be really dark but I love it.  Both boys want accent walls too.  Tommy wants a red wall and Matthew wants a green wall.  I thought that would be a hell of a lot better than painting ALL the walls these colors (sorry boys).  I’ll pick these accent colors out later.  Any recommendations? I also plan to do one chalkboard wall in each room.  Haven’t decided if I will do the entire wall or just the lower half in chalkboard paint.  Or, maybe I’ll do a chalkboard wall in the playroom. We’ll see.

Doors and Trim…

Our doors and most of the trim has been installed.  The doors will come off and be painted white. They can’t install the trim in the great room until the wood floors are installed which hasn’t happened yet. It’s coming though!

The guest bathroom is almost done.  Check it out.  It looks amazing, so far.

It was hard to get a good picture of this since the guy was still working in there and I wasn’t allowed to walk all the way into the room.  But, it looks good, right?  Can’t wait until they grout it.

And here is the progress on the Master Bath.  Also looking good but also very hard to get a good picture of.  Kids bath, laundry room and powder room are up next.  Then carpet and hardwood floors.

They are working on the pool too and all our pavers are waiting in our yard for when they are ready. No pictures of the pool to share since nothing looks much different.  They are prepping to put in the tiles.

Lots going on.  We have family coming to town this weekend.  I really wish our house was done for them to stay with us.  Sorry!

Moving Sucks!

Hello!  It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything.  That is because we’ve been busy moving.  Moving sucks. Am I right?  I’m sure most of you out there have moved a time or two.  It’s one of those things that you forget how awful it is until you go threw it.  Sort of like giving birth.  It’s not much fun yet people keep doing it. I did it twice myself.

Anyway, we are now camped out at the Residence Inn for the next week.  We have a 2 bedroom suite with free breakfast every morning and, most importantly, free happy hour at night. 🙂 It feels like we are on vacation even though we’re just 15 minutes from our old house.  Then we will move to my husband’s aunt and uncles condo (once their renters are gone).  We are lucky to have that option and are so appreciative and thankful that it is available and they are letting us stay there.   None of us are moving very fast today (Sunday).  My husband and I are exhausted and our bodies are sore.  We’ve been working non-stop from morning until late at night packing for 7 days straight.  We took 3 trips to Goodwill with our cars full of donations, packed up 2 PODS to send to storage and made endless trips to the House house with my friend’s trailer loaded up, where we filled up the garage, the lanai, and some of the empty rooms with furniture.  Thank you Crossfit for making me lift heavy things daily. We did hire movers to lift the REALLY heavy things but I feel like I wasn’t completely useless and definitely did my fair share of helping and heavy lifting!  We also had some help packing.  Thank you to our awesome cleaning lady, Pam McBroom.  You were a HUGE help!

Moving is so bittersweet. You work your ass off packing, cleaning, and organizing to empty out your house by a certain time that you don’t really get to say a proper goodbye to the place you’ve lived for however many years. For us it was 5.  My boys were 2 and 4 when we moved there. They are now 7 and 9. My youngest learned to swim in that pool.  My oldest had his first sleepover.  They both learned to ride their bikes on our cul-de-sac.  So many memories!  We are ready to move on and make lots of new memories in our new house. I wish the House house was ready for us to move into, but it’s not and we have to deal with it, and know that it will be ready soon (and worth the wait). So anyway, goodbye house. It’s been real! We’ll miss you!!!

Here we are at the hotel pool.  Relaxing after all our hard work.

Stayed tuned for this week’s Weekly Update.  There is lots to share.  Exciting stuff.
